Who is Miami Heat’s owner Micky Arison?
Miami Heat owner Micky Arison has experienced immense success since taking over as owner in 1995. The Heat have won three NBA titles under Arison’s ownership in 2006, 2012 and 2013 and have become one of the league’s most well-respected franchises. However, Arison’s success outside the NBA has been equally impressive.
Arison, aged 73, is the chairman of the world-famous cruise operation Carnival Corporation. The company, initially known as Carnival Cruise Line was co-founded by Arison’s father Ted Arison, who also brought the Heat franchise to Miami in 1988. However, despite his family connections, Arison had to work his way up in the business world.
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Arison immigrated to the U.S. as a child. He later attended the University of Miami before dropping out to become a sales representative for his father’s cruise line in 1972. Arison was eventually named Carnival’s president and CEO in 1979. He then served in the position until 2013 when he transitioned to chairman.
Under Arison’s leadership, Carnival expanded and acquired other successful cruise lines. These include Holland America Line, Seabourn Cruise Line, Cunard Line, Costa Cruises, and Princess Cruises. This led to Carnival Cruise Line’s parent company becoming known as Carnival Corporation in 1993.
As of today, Carnival Corporation & plc is the largest and most successful cruise operator in the world.
