Why did Coca Cola drop Ja Morant’s advertisements? Real reason amid suspension explored

Ja Morant’s advertisements for Powerade were supposed to be the next big thing for the sports drink. The Coca-Cola Company, owner of the drink, decided to launch a new marketing campaign with the Memphis Grizzlies star.

Unfortunately, the drinks company made a deal with the 23-year-old guard shortly before his gun incident surfaced online. As many fans are aware, Morant allegedly flashed a gun in a live Instagram video, which is why the company has decided to distance itself from him.

Coca-Cola has already made Ja Morant’s advertisements and released them online. However, they were taken down shortly after the gun incident. Furthermore, the Grizzlies star was removed from the Powerade website as well.

Powerade is a popular sports drink that is used by millions of athletes around the world. However, its main competitor, Gatorade, has a lion's share of the market. This is why Coca-Cola decided to launch a new marketing campaign.

Competing with Gatorade has been tough since the drink has been out for more than two decades compared to Powerade. Unfortunately, picking Ja Morant wasn't exactly the best move for Coca-Cola.

The Memphis Grizzlies guard is one of the best players in the NBA at the moment. Furthermore, he is only 23 and the league will be in his hands once veterans like LeBron James and Kevin Durant retire.

Ja Morant’s advertisements were taken down due to his problematic behavior. The Grizzlies guard was also taken down from the Powerade website. However, it's important to note that Coca-Cola has not yet terminated its deal with the superstar.

Morant is currently away from the team and will miss at least two more games. If he stays away from more trouble, Powerade may re-launch his advertisements and marketing campaign.

Morant could lose a lot of money from his sponsors

Coca-Cola has taken down Ja Morant’s advertisements, but the Grizzlies guard could lose a lot more money if he doesn't rehabilitate his image. Morant is also Nike's signature athlete and his shoes are scheduled to be released in April 2023.

The footwear company distanced itself from Kyrie Irving earlier this season. Irving has also been controversial, which is why Nike did not want to be affiliated with him.
