Damian Lillard concluded his first season with the Milwaukee Bucks after he was traded from the Portland Trail Blazers ahead of the 2023-24 season.
The eight-time NBA All-Star averaged 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 1.0 steals across the 73 games he played in the regular season. Lillard also shot 42.4% from the field, including 35.4% from beyond the arc as the Bucks secured a 49-33 record to place third in the Eastern Conference.
However, the Bucks were handed an early exit in the postseason after they were defeated 4-2 by the Indiana Pacers in a first-round playoff series. The outcome may have been due to the injury to their star players, with Giannis Antetokounmpo out for the entire series, while Lillard missed two of the six games.
In the four games that he played against the Pacers, Damian Lillard averaged an impressive 31.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.0 steals as the Bucks went 1-3 with him in the team.
Damian Lillard terms his first season with Milwaukee as year of growth
After 11 years with the Portland Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. He also announced his ongoing divorce from his former wife Kay'La Hanson soon after.
In an interview after being eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of the first-round playoff series, Lillard reflected on his first year with the Bucks.
"It was a roller-coaster of a year, but I think for me personally, it was a year of growth more than anything," Lillard said.
"It has been some hard times. I haven't denied that one time this year. Basketball and personally, it's been some hard times, but it's never been an issue with Milwaukee."
Damian Lillard's on-court chemistry alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and the rest of the Milwaukee Bucks seemed promising in the 2023-24 season. The team is anticipated to return stronger for the next season in which they'll look to make a deeper run.
