Why is Jeremy Sochan not playing today against Utah Jazz? Reason behind San Antonio Spurs forward's absence revealed (Nov. 9)

Jeremy Sochan will sit out of the San Antonio Spurs' home game against the Utah Jazz on Saturday, marking his third consecutive missed game due to a fractured left thumb. The young forward sustained the injury during the Spurs' 113-104 loss to the LA Clippers on Monday.

Sochan fractured the proximal phalanx and subsequently underwent surgery. He is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks before being reevaluated.

According to Spurs reporter Dusty Garza, Sochan's thumb has been fully immobilized but the former Baylor player will continue individual training to stay in shape.

"Hearing that Jeremy Sochan’s thumb has been completely immobilized and that in 3 weeks he will undergo further tests and complete an assessment as to how his body reacted to his recent surgery," Garza said in a tweet on Friday.
"Until then, in order to stay in shape, he will participate in individual training, as much as the Spurs medical team allows him."

Sochan was playing excellent basketball before getting injured

Jeremy Sochan was playing the best basketball of his young career to start the 2024-25 season. The forward emerged as arguably the Spurs’ top performer over the first six games, posting at least 10 points and five rebounds in each outing. Before his injury, Sochan was playing at an MVP level for the team, even with stars like Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul on the roster.

Prior to his injury setback, Sochan was averaging career highs in points, field goal percentage and rebounds. In seven games, including his 12-minute stint against the Clippers, he averaged 15.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game, shooting 51.2% from the field, including 25.0% from beyond the arc.
