Arnold Schwarzenegger's secret behind his massive chest: All you need to know about Vince Gironda
Arnold Schwarzenegger is probably the most popular bodybuilder alive. He is known for his distinctively famous physical features or to be precise, his chest. It is an undeniable fact that training can enhance, if not transform, one's genetic makeup. Such is said to have happened with the Austrian Oak. His development into this beast is often credited to his mentor: Vince Gironda.
In fact, there is a whole video on 'How Arnold Schwarzenegger used the Gironda Dip to develop his lower chest' shared by @goldenerabookworm on YouTube. The video has touched upon exercises that Arnold started doing after starting training according to Gironda. It also states that the young-adult Schwarzenegger couldn't automatically undergo such extreme refinement if he didn't train as he did.
Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't the only champion Gironda has trained; the latter had been a mentor to the most notable bodybuilders. They were Lou Ferrigno 'The Hulk', Mr. World-Universe Rick Wayne, Mr. America Don Howorth, 3x Mr. Olympia Frank Zane, and the first Mr. Olympia Larry Scott, amongst others.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's mentor Vince Gironda's training was rather unconventional
It is no secret that Gironda's technique for training bodybuilders was more than a little different from the convention going on at that time. While it is an unsaid norm to train one section of the body at a time, Gironda was in favor of a full-body workout. He also prescribed an unconventional orientation of the body and the equipment for the chest press.
Gironda was also known to be very particular and strict about which exercises his trainee bodybuilders were not to do. He believed (and demonstrated) that certain exercises needed to be done in certain ways only, in order to target the muscles that require work. This also avoided effort going into the muscles that didn't require growth.
Apart from running a gym, Gironda also used to write for the Iron Man magazine, for which he came to be known as the Iron Guru. In his prime, Gironda's gym was the most celebrity-sought one.
