How big was Jay Cutler during his prime years?

Four-time Mr. Olympia champion Jay Cutler was known for his massive physique. Hailing from Worcester, Massachusetts, Cutler made his debut at the 1992 Gold’s Gym Worcester Bodybuilding Championship where he came second. Winning his pro card just four years later at 1996 NPC Nationals, Cutler had to wait for a long while before getting his hands on the prestigious Mr. Olympia title in 2006.

Dethroning ‘The King’ Ronnie Coleman and ending his winning streak was not a child’s play by any means. It required Jay Cutler to gain a freaky amount of size in addition to insane shreds and conditioning. For this, Cutler bulked up to 290 lbs during his off-season. That being said, let’s take a look at his body measurements during his prime Mr. Olympia days (as per Bodybuilding.com):

  • Height: 5'9
  • Off-season weight: 290lbs
  • Competition weight: 260lbs
  • Upper arms: 22 inches
  • Chest: 58 inches
  • Thighs: 30 inches
  • Calves: 20 inches
  • Waist: 34 inches

Jay Cutler was finally able to defeat Ronnie Coleman and win his first Mr. Olympia title, a title which he won again in 2007. Cutler’s winning streak was ended by Dexter Jackson in 2008. However, the American won the title again in 2009 and successfully defended it in 2010.

Jay Cutler’s insane diet

To get and stay this big, Cutler gulped down a massive 6000-7000 calories every day. On the Michael Sartain podcast with from two years ago, Cutler said:

“I’m not going to lie; there was a lot of diets I ate 140 egg whites a day. So I was cracking eggs non-stop. I was eating thirty egg whites a meal then." [01:03:04]

In conversation with Ryan Pineda two years ago on his podcast Wealthy Way, Jay Cutler also revealed that he would get a whole cow to complete his protein intake, in addition to buying 140lbs of chicken at a time.

“I would buy a whole cow, and then I’d buy 140 pounds of chicken at a time. So I had two freezers in my garage, and I would eat five pounds of meat a day plus the eggs." (27:15)

Spending a whopping $50,000 every year on his supplement stack, it was indeed a chore for Jay Cutler to complete his diet every day. Nevertheless, his hard work ultimately reaped its benefits. Jay Cutler still remains one of the most respected individuals in the realm of fitness and bodybuilding.
