How many Mr. Olympia titles does Lee Haney have?
Lee Haney holds the most Mr. Olympia titles record with eight to his name. Until 2006, he was the only Mr. Olympia to win the championship consecutively for eight years. He has an annual sports event named after him: The Lee Haney Games. NPC national qualifiers get to showcase their fitness and physique at this event.
Haney is thought of as a real down-to-earth celebrity by his fans and bodybuilding enthusiasts. Two years ago, he gave them his key point of view in a talk with Muscular Development, saying:
"My advice is you live all the way from the start to finish. That's been my experience. And because of understanding the importance of living, and enjoying life, pride is not the thing I had to fight with."
Talking about what's not to be missed during training, Haney said:
"Make sure you breathe, and live as you go through those processes as an athlete. Don't wait till the end of the day and say 'Okay now that's over, now I'm gonna start living'."
Watch him give away the way to his approach and attitude towards bodybuilding and life in this talk:
Haney left Schwarzenegger behind in 1991
Until 1984, seven Mr. Olympia titles were owned by Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is still seen as the most famous person to be associated with the event. Lee Haney left him behind, starting in 1884. That's when Haney won his first of eight titles and went on to win until 1991. He then retired from professional bodybuilding.
It was in 1998 that Ronnie Coleman repeated history by winning eight Mr. Olympia titles in a row, tying with Lee Haney.
