Does Arnold Schwarzenegger use protein powder?
Arnold Schwarzenegger has created a legacy for himself in the realm of bodybuilding. Despite his retirement from the sport decades ago, he is still in peak health and maintains a ripped physique. Having turned 77 just days ago (July 30), Schwarzenegger still hits the gym six days a week and performs cardio daily.
Still training at the 'mecca of bodybuilding,' Gold's Gym Venice has been Schwarzenegger's gym for decades now. He turned vegan in recent years. He relies on consuming whey protein to fulfill his daily protein goal and maintain his muscle mass at the tough age of 77.
Back in April 2023, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed in his daily newsletter 'Arnold's Pump Club' about his protein intake. He wrote (via Business Insider):
"For protein, my staples are eggs, salmon, and chicken. But I have more and more veggie burgers with lentils and beans…I also use my Ladder Plan protein powder, powered by pea protein."
Schwarzenegger is also the co-founder of Ladder with NBA icon LeBron James. Sharing his favorite protein shake recipe, he revealed he likes mixing schnapps or tequila in his shake.
Why did Arnold Schwarzenegger turn vegan?
Having gone through enough cardiac issues throughout his life, Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to turn vegan to improve his health and longevity. In the popular Netflix documentary 'The Game Changers,' he said:
"I got older and as I started reading up on it, I recognize the fact that you really don't have to get the protein from me or from animals. So you start going more in a direction of vegetarian kind of a diet.
"Now with doing it the right way with the right spices all of a sudden I love it much more than the meat. And you know, the cholesterol went down to around 109 It was the lowest that it ever was in my entire life." [0:19]
At the age of 77, Schwarzenegger has already gone through three heart surgeries and got a pacemaker installed earlier this year. While he removed meat from his diet for health benefits, he doesn't hesitate to eat some steak once in a while on family occasions and celebrations.
Ever since he decided to cut down his meat intake, Arnold Schwarzenegger has relied on whey protein and Greek yoghurt to complete his protein goal. Avoiding consuming meat helps him control his LDL cholesterol or bad cholesterol.
His dedication and discipline when it comes to diet and nutrition is truly one of a kind. What are your views on this? Let us know in the comments.
