NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe’s natty status explored by AthleanX
Shannon Sharpe, 56, remains to be one of the best NFL athletes of all time. Playing 14 seasons in total, Sharpe decided to retire from the sport back in 2003. Ever since his retirement from the sport, Sharpe's love for lifting general fitness has increased multiple folds. Maintaining a physique so good that even most teenagers can't achieve, Sharpe continues to make fans drool with his astounding frame.
Undoubtedly, this does land him in debates regarding his natty status frequently. While many bodybuilding fans believe he is taking performance-enhancing drugs, there is also a huge portion of people who believe he is natty. Joining the list is also a popular fitness influencer and creator Jeff Cavaliere also known as Athlean X.
Giving his honest take on Shannon Sharpe's natty status, Jeff stated (01:50):
"I actually side with Shannon, I think there's a distinct possibility that he's not taking anything. Now I don't know him personally so I can't say definitively but I think there's a distinct possibility but I can tell you this, whenever you're in a position where you have something that others desire you're going to get questioned for how got it."
"I'm not an apologist for athletes but I'll tell you this, having worked with them my entire life..they are outliers..I know a lot about them. Genetically we were not all handed out the same gifts."
Jeff Cavaliere critiques Shannon Sharpe's training
Regardless of his natty status, achieving such a ripped and muscular physique at the tough age of 56 is not a child's play. Cavaliere further mentioned that besides the point that such an amazing physique can't be achieved without following a good diet, it is also Shannon Sharpe's intense training that makes it possible for him.
Having decades of experience under his belt, Sharpe still trains twice in a day. While the first session consists of weight training where he trains one body part every day, the second session is for crossfit.
Reacting to this, Jeff Cavaliere stated (04:20):
"There's a element of cross training to this circuit style that's going to help him in terms of overall calorie burn for the day...As we get older conditioning becomes very important right, training our VO2 max, getting our heart rate up, it's a-it's a bigger picture as we get older than just looking muscular."
"This type of workout will do exactly that and if you look at actually the calories burned over here, 3500 meters of rowing that's going to burn about 125 to 150 calories and he said he does this like 3 or 4 times through so there's a good caloric burn."
Shannon Sharpe's intense workout given his age is actually commendable. Despite his retirement from the NFL years ago, he still continues to inspire millions through his fitness journey.
