Sam Sulek rejects scientific lifting philosophies, reveals “never really took rest days”
Sam Sulek, 21, took the bodybuilding and fitness community by storm with his insane growth as a fitness icon. Going viral on social media for his astounding physique at such a young age, as well as for his knowledge, Sulek became an overnight success.
Sulek's approach when it comes to training and diet is a lot different than most bodybuilding veterans. Often considered a metalhead and an ego-lifter, he is open about his unorthodox lifting approach.
In a recent video uploaded on his YouTube channel, he revealed that he doesn't take planned rest days in his training routine. He only takes rest days when his muscles absolutely need a day off from weight training.
Talking along the same lines, Sam Sulek stated:
"I mean I never really took rest days, ever, apart from when they were necessary I mean like if I if we were travelling or something or if I had uh if i had like a diving meet or something, I'd work till after that to workout but I mean even as a f*cking natural character at you know 16 or 17.
"I mean I was kind of lifting straight through the whole time and of course I think I may be a little bit pretrained before I started working out because before I started actually lifting weights and kind of starting this whole bodybuilding pursuit."
Sam Sulek admits having an advantage
Sam Sulek has been an active kid since his childhood years. Having a ton of experience as a diver in swimming as well as a gymnast, Sulek admits having a strong base from the very start.
Further in the video, he discussed that even before he entered the weight room, he was into sports and heavy endurance-demanding sports. Sulek stated:
"I was uh I was already pretty athletic as a kid, like you know doing a couple hours of diving practices but I think what really worked for me was I used to do gymnastics right swinging around bars and stuff...So, I think I kind of set myself up for success inadvertently because before I started working out I already had like a 3 hour time period of like pretty intense activity."
Sam Sulek believes most lifters take rest days because of their lack of discipline, according to their comfort. Instead, rest days should be only taken when your body actually needs to take time off.
