What was Arnold Schwarzenegger’s weakness?

It might be hard to believe but even Arnold Schwarzenegger, the legend of the bodybuilding industry, had weaknesses in his physique that he was worried about. The seven-time Mr. Olympia's calves were his weakness, which he later turned into his greatest strength.

Arnold Schwarzenegger always hesitated to wear shorts to the gym. According to Medium, Arnie was ashamed of his weaker legs and was often teased in his childhood by his peers for the same. They further highlighted that the Austrian Oak feared the judgment that people might give him.

But the seven-time Mr. Olympia didn't lose hope and believed that he could train them to the fullest and make his calves his strength. According to Medium, the Austrian Oak said:

"I knew if I exposed only my better body parts — my arms, chest, or deltoids — all I’d get from my peers would be wonderful comments and I’d soon forget about my horrid lower legs, so I continued to wear the cutaway sweatpants that invited ego-bruising pain … and it worked. I trained them first every workout, and very often I did a few sets at the end of my workout."

Arnold Schwarzenegger's insane leg workout

According to BroScience and Fitness Volt, Arnold Schwarzenegger had a crazy leg workout. It goes as follows:

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger did five sets of quats with a pattern of 10, 8, 6, and 4. Additionally, he did 20 reps as a warmup to get the blood flowing in his muscles.
  • The Austrian Oak also did 4 sets of front squats with the patterns 10, 8, and 6 to pump his legs.
  • Along with these variations of squats, Arnie did three sets of hack squats of ten reps per set.
  • Then he moved to the leg curls and pushed four sets, following the 20, 10, 8, and 6 reps per set.
  • After the leg curls to demolish his legs, the seven-time Mr. Olympia did the standing leg curls and managed to do four sets of ten reps per set.
  • Along with that, Arnold Schwarzenegger also did the straight-leg deadlift and did three sets of ten reps per set.
  • For his calves, the Terminator did donkey calf raises and did four sets of ten reps per set.
  • He also did the four sets of standing calf raises following the 15, 10, 8, and 8 reps.
