World record holder strongman Hafthor Bjornsson’s coach reveals secrets to his insane 1104 lbs deadlift
Strongman legend Hafthor Bjornsson has showcased incredible strength on numerous occasions. Currently gearing up for the upcoming Shaw Classic 2024, Bjornsson is undergoing intense training to claim another Strongman victory.
Having previously deadlifted a staggering 1104 lbs in 2020, Bjornsson effortlessly lifted 793 lbs during his most recent training session with coach Sebastian Oreb. His coach shared valuable insights and secrets about his incredible strength.
World-renowned strength coach Sebastian Oreb advised the audience to tuck their chin during deadlifts. This reduces spinal load, aiding in easier lockouts by preventing excessive body lean.
Outlining their strategy for the upcoming show, Oreb explained that if Hafthor Bjornsson deadlifts 1000 lbs during preparation, lifting 793 lbs at the contest will feel effortless, ensuring a clear victory.
The 35-year-old's coach also emphasized the importance of having strong glutes and hamstrings for heavy deadlifts. He mentioned incorporating a few sets of Romanian deadliffs into Hafthor's sessions.
“I want to add a little bit of volume in his hamstrings and glutes and his back in a nice way,” Oreb said. (12:59)
There are two methods for performing Romanian deadlifts. The first involves continuous repetitions without grounding the weight. The second, preferred by the coach, is to gently lower the weight to the floor after each rep. Oreb suggests this specific execution of the accessory exercise to enhance deadlift performance.
“The cue is as if you are landing on eggshells, you are not allowed for those eggshells to break. That’s what we are trying to do now,” Oreb said. (13:38)
Currently weighing around 407 lbs, Bjornsson’s 793 lbs deadlift looked effortless.
