MMA News: Legendary trainer Freddie Roach mocks Conor McGregor!
The combat sports community has always shown the utmost respect for the renowned award winning boxing coach, Freddie Roach. The words that come out of the legendary trainer’s mouth are well received by the media, and he is quite frank while opining on top fighters.
Only a week ago, Roach had something more controversial to say regarding the MMA superstar Conor McGregor.
While the jabs and jeers between the Mayweather’s Money Team and McGregor’s team were still alive, Roach was asked by Mayweather to train McGregor for their fight. The legendary trainer had expressed his desire that he would love to help the Irish superstar if the fight was indeed to take place.
Roach expressed a little more than his desire to hold the mitts for McGregor:
“At least he needs three years to get ready for a boxing fight. He punched like a girl. I mean that’s why the other guy couldn’t get – he couldn’t hurt the other guy. Well, he did knock him down three times. Diaz is usually a bit tougher than that.”
Mayweather is the only top level boxer in recent times, to have remained undefeated till retirement. Mayweather is trained by his father Floyd Mayweather Sr and his uncle Roger Mayweather, and is an expert in the defensive style of shoulder rolls.
According to BJPenn.com, when Roach was asked about a possible match between his best horse in his stable, Manny Pacquiao against Conor McGregor, he simply said:
“MMA and boxing do not mix. What rules are they going to fight under? Whatever rules they fight under, that’s whose going to win the fight. I mean he’s (McGregor) not a boxer, he’s (Pacquiao) not a wrestler. Its f**king two separate sports.”
Freddie Roach follows MMA too and has trained Georges St Pierre, Anderson Silva and BJ Penn in the past. He had also expressed his desire to train legendary Russian MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko in the past.
