Not sure if Mayweather would turn up for the fight: Freddie Roach

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will go head-to-head on May 2nd

Ahead of their much-anticipated clash, the trainer of Manny Pacquiao, Freddie Roach has said that Floyd Mayweather might not turn up for the fight, scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 2nd.

"I really am wondering if he's going to turn up on the night.I don't think any fighter is afraid, but I don't think he wanted this fight. He was forced into a fight he didn't want to take,” Roach said.

The trainer also seemed perplexed about Mayweather not talking a great deal ahead of the bout.

"I just don't know why Floyd has gone quiet for this fight. His speech is very subdued,” he said.

Pacquiao would be using a protective cup during the clash, and the use of that has clearly not gone down too well in the Mayweather camp, who filed a complaint about him using the cup. Roach, though was quick to point out that there was nothing unusual about the cup.

"It's the regular cup," he said.

The 36-year-old Philippines-born boxer said he felt relaxed and confident ahead of the bout and added that he wished to give a cracking contest to the massive crowd that would turn up at the venue.

"The feeling I had three years ago, 10 years ago, is back. I haven't felt like this in my last few fights, I feel different. I'm relaxed and confident,” he said.

"For me, it's about giving the fans who are paying all this money a great fight. They deserve that."It's all business for him,” he added.

I’ll be there for the fight: Mayweather

Responding  to Roach’s comments about him being subdued, Mayweather said that while he has been vocal about bouts in the past, there was no need for him to promote it in any such way this time around.

"I'll be there. I talked trash in the past but this fight sells itself, so I don't have to,” the 38-year-old said.

Mayweather’s trainer, Floyd Sr. also joined in the verbal duel, saying that the fight would be a one-sided affair and Pacquiao will be put to sleep at the end of it.

"Manny Pacquiao ain't got it. He can't punch. It's going to be one-sided and Pacquiao is going to be put to sleep. Good night."
