Who is Nishant Dev? Know all about India's ace boxer who is participating in the Men's World Boxing Championships
Nishant Dev is a talented boxer from Karnal, Haryana, who'll represent India in the 71 kg order at the IBA Men's World Boxing Championships. He started boxing in 2012 and was inspired by his uncle, who was a professional pugilist.
Although the tournament is being held in Tashkent, Nishant will be receiving home support from his fans via Cadbury Dairy Milk’s #CheerForAllSports initiative, where they will have installed a fan wall in the stadium for fans to back their favourite players to go all the way.
In 2021, Nishant impressed everyone with his fearless boxing at the World Championships, defeating several top-ranked opponents before eventually bowing out in the quarter-finals. He also won a gold medal at the National Championships around the same time.
However, Nishant was forced to undergo surgery and a lengthy recovery in 2022 due to a previous injury. Despite this setback, he worked tirelessly on improving his strength, power, and agility, with the aim of making a strong comeback in the future.
In 2023, he successfully defended his title at the National Boxing Championships. He has previously won several tournaments, including a gold medal at the Asian Grand Slam Boxing Championships in 2019. Nishant Dev began his boxing career at the Karan Colosseum under the guidance of trainer Surender Chauhan. His father used to accompany him to training at 4 AM and in the evenings to ensure proper training. Despite the challenges, Nishant has remained committed to his career and is determined to become a world-class prizefighter. He has worked tirelessly to improve his skills and has continued to train under the guidance of his coaches.
