Global Chess League 2024: Where to watch and live-streaming details?
The Global Chess League 2024 (GCL), jointly organized by FIDE and Tech Mahindra, is gearing up for its second season, set to take place in London from October 3 to 11.
The event will feature elite players such as Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Viswanathan Anand. Unlike traditional chess formats, the preliminary stage will follow a Double round-robin format, and the final will be contested over two matches.
In an exciting twist, the games won’t all begin simultaneously. Instead, two games will start first, with a two-minute interval before the next two, followed by another two-minute interval for the final two games.
The Triveni Continental Kings are the reigning champions, having won the inaugural 2023 edition in Dubai. Their dramatic victory came after a blitz tiebreaker against the upGrad Mumba Masters, with Danish GM Jonas Bjerre securing the title by defeating GM Javokhir Sindarov in the fourth sudden-death blitz tiebreaker.
Global Chess League 2024: When to watch the tournament?
The opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday, October 2, and the first round will kick off on Thursday, October 3, at 13:15 London time (8:15 AM ET / 14:15 CEST / 5:45 PM IST).
Unlike simultaneous matches, the second game will begin at 15:55 (10:55 AM ET / 16:55 CEST / 8:25 PM IST), followed by another match at 17:15 (12:15 PM ET / 18:15 CEST / 9:45 PM IST). The same schedule will be followed for subsequent rounds, with an additional game starting at 14:30 (9:30 AM ET / 15:30 CEST / 9:30 PM IST).
The grand final will take place on Saturday, October 12, starting at 13:15 London time (8:15 AM ET / 14:15 CEST / 5:45 PM IST), with the second match starting at 14:35 London time (9:35 AM ET / 15:35 CEST / 7:05 PM IST).
