World Chess Championship 2024: Gukesh and Ding Liren’s fierce battle moves to another draw in Game 6; scores tied at 3-3
The sixth game of the World Chess Championship 2024 between Ding Liren, the defending champion, and the Indian Grandmaster Gukesh ended in a 46-move draw with a threefold repetition. The Championship scores are currently tied at 3-3.
Moving into the details of Game 6, the Indian Grandmaster once looked in a tough situation. However, he chose to keep playing and initially rejected a chance to agree to a draw.
On the other hand, Ding Liren looked well set, starting off the game, taking very little time for his first 20 moves. Meanwhile, Gukesh spent 53 minutes compared to Ding’s seven minutes. Game 6 witnessed the London System since it was closely contested.
Speaking about the overall Championship, the reigning champion took an early lead in Game 1 before the duo settled for a draw in Game 2. Gukesh won the third game as Liren ran out of time. Game 4 and Game 5 ended in a draw.
It’s worth noting that there will be a total of 14 games in the World Chess Championship. The first player to reach 7.5 points will secure the world champion title. If the campaign ends in a tie after all 14 games, a tiebreaker will be held to determine the eventual champion.
