World Chess Championship 2024: Gukesh secures a win over Ding Liren in Game 11 to take lead

Indian Grandmaster Gukesh D bagged an impressive win over the reigning champion Ding Liren in Game 11 of the ongoing World Chess Championship 2024 at the Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. The World Chess Championship final scores read 6-5 with three more games remaining. With Gukesh already taking the lead in the campaign for the first time, we might not see a tiebreaker.

Moving into the details of Game 11, it turned out to be a tense battle as both players were running out of time to make their moves. Although Ding Liren is known for tackling such challenges, he made a mistake and Gukesh was quick to take advantage.

While Ding Liren spent 38 minutes on one move and 22 on another, Gukesh spent almost an hour on his 11th move. Although the game started on a slow note, it ended dramatically with two quick moves in less than a minute.

Earlier, Games 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 ended in a draw. While Ding managed to bag a win in Game 1, Gukesh secured a win in Game 3 with the second game ending in a draw.

It’s important to note that there will be 14 games in the World Chess Championship. The first player to bag 7.5 points will secure the World Champion title.
