With the Aggies stepping up and having a legitimate chance of winning it all, let's take a deeper dive into a few key players to keep the significant chances of Jim Schlossnagle's team winning the 2024 College World Series alive.
Which players can help Jim Schlossnagle win the NCAA Championship?
Evan Aschenbeck
Evan Aschenbeck has pitched extremely well for the Texas A&M Aggies this season and has showcased the ability to lock down games. On the season, he has 28 appearances out of the bullpen and is 6-1 with a 1.66 ERA and nine saves in 65.0 innings of work. To showcase his dominance, his 1.66 ERA and 0.80 WHIP were both the best in the country.
His pinpoint control keeps him out of jams, as he has eight walks to 72 strikeouts. Pitching in the Southeastern Conference is difficult to keep the ball in the park but not for Aschenbeck, as he has allowed six home runs, or almost one every 11 innings. Keeping a lead is critical and that is what Evan Aschenbeck will do in the College World Series.
Gavin Grahovac
Freshman Gavin Grahovac has been one of the best players in the country, and with the Aggies, he has been one of the most outstanding players. So far this year, he has a .306/.403/.616 slash line with 22 home runs, 63 RBIs, 80 runs scored and three stolen bases. Grahovac won the SEC Freshman of the Year while posting 167 multi-RBI games this season.
Caden Sorrell
Caden Sorrell was part of the Freshman All-America Second Team and has to continue playing well for the Aggies to pick up a national championship this season. In 56 games (42 starts), he had a .923 OPS with 10 home runs, 36 RBIs, 41 runs scored and eight stolen bases. With the lineup looking stacked, this is a great spot for Sorrell to play a bit of an X-factor here.
