Chapel Hill Baseball Regional Projection 2024: Odds and picks for 2024 NCAA Baseball
The Chapel Hill Regional is considered one of the most intriguing brackets in the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
The teams competing for a spot at the Super Regional are defending champions and SEC Tournament runner-up LSU, ACC Coastal Division champion North Carolina, Southern Conference Tournament champion Wofford and Northeast Conference Tournament winners LIU.
The regional competition between the four teams should be cut-throat as they could go on a hot streak and gain that Super Regional ticket by winning the regional tournament. Betting for the Chapel Hill Regional would need scrutiny as any one of the four teams could rule the double-elimination tournament.
Chapel Hill Baseball Regional Projection 2024
Anything can happen in the regionals, as the 64 teams chosen to compete are the top squads that ruled college baseball this season. The Chapel Hill Regional could be considered as baseball's version of the "Group of Death" with two conference champions (Wofford and LIU), one division champion (North Carolina) and the defending national champion (LSU) competing to secure a lone ticket in the Super Regionals.
The winner will march on to the Super Regional where they will face the winner of the Tucson Regional in a best-of-three series. The first game of the Chapel Hill Regional is between Wofford and LSU at 12:00 p.m. ET and the North Carolina-LIU game will be held at 6:00 p.m.
Chapel Hill Regional Betting Odds and Picks
Betting odds for the Chapel Hill Regional were released and No. 4 North Carolina is the favorite with a -110 odds followed by LSU at +110. Betting for Wofford will have a +900 moneyline and LIU is the longshot among the four with a +10000 odds of winning the regional.
The return of Vance Honeycutt from back spasms should boost the Tar Heels' regional aspirations, but the question now is would his presence be enough to help North Carolina stave off the rampaging Tigers and the offense-minded Terriers and win the regionals?
Another factor that could swing for North Carolina's advantage is their winning record at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels have advanced to the Super Regional 10 times since 1999 and are 33-8 in home regional games. They finished 32-2 at home this season, so it will be a tall task for LSU, Wofford and LIU to win at Boshamer Stadium.
However, UNC has problems against SEC opponents. They are 3-5 against the SEC in their last tournament appearances, which included series defeats to Arkansas and Auburn in Super Regionals hosted by Chapel Hill. This season, South Carolina upset UNC, 2-1 in the Tar Heels' only game against an SEC foe.
Three teams — North Carolina, LSU and Wofford — can win the regional but in the end, it will likely be between No. 4 seed Tar Heels and the SEC finalists Tigers in the final. With the experience of winning the national championship tucked under their sleeves, LSU should go on to beat North Carolina in the regional final and move on to the Super Regional.
