College baseball insider expects Texas A&M to land “2-4 strong arms” in the coming days, hints at special player’s commitment
Texas A&M isn't wasting time in strengthening its lineup as they seek to finally capture the elusive national championship next season. The Aggies were two runs short of overtaking Tennessee in the ninth inning when they were shut down.
This allowed the Volunteers to escape with a 6-5 victory in Game 3 of the 2024 College World Series final at the Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Nebraska on June 24.
Under new coach Michael Earley, the Aggies went to work immediately, acquiring the players they needed to ensure another College World Series run next season.
College baseball insider and D1 Baseball managing editor Kendall Rogers is expecting the team to acquire two to four strong pitchers in the next few days.
Rogers also disclosed that Texas A&M is among the favorites to land a sought-after position player who is considered a top player in the preseason rankings.
The aforementioned new acquisitions will boost the already strong lineup of Texas A&M following former coach Jim Schlossnagle's exit.
Texas A&M getting the band back again
The Texas A&M program has managed to get commitments from sought-after players, either in the transfer portal or from high school. They have also got the commitment of core players Jace LaViolette, Gavin Grahovac, Caden Sorrell and Kaeden Kent for the 2024-25 season.
They've also found a replacement for catcher Jackson Appel as Texas A&M secured the commitment of USC transfer catcher Jacob Galloway. The five-foot-nine catcher played 58 games for USC and hit .286 with 42 runs and six home runs this past season.
Galloway also had 40 RBIs, two stolen bases, an on-base percentage of.386 and slugging rate of .451.
Aggies coach Michael Earley also beefed up his coaching staff by hiring the best coaches he knew would help Texas A&M make the CWS once again.
Earley retained Will Fox as assistant coach, then acquired Caleb Longley as the team's recruiting coordinator and hitting assistant coach. He completed his lineup on Wednesday by hiring Jason Kelly as his associate head coach and pitching coach.
The Aggies finished the season with a 53-15 record (19-11 SEC). They swept the regional and super-regional to make the College World Series. They made the finals by beating Florida and Kentucky in the first two rounds before blanking Florida in the semifinals.
They beat Tennessee in the opener, 9-5, but the Volunteers bounced back in Game 2 to force a winner-take-all duel. Tennessee raced to a 6-1 lead in the first seven innings before Texas A&M answered with four runs in the eighth and ninth innings, trimming the deficit to 6-5.
The Aggies fell short as the Volunteers got the final out of the game to secure their first-ever national title.
Texas A&M is back next year with a better lineup good enough to finally gain that elusive crown.
