David Pierce contract: How much did former Texas HC make? Salary structure, contract length
The Texas Longhorns are searching for a new baseball coach after firing David Pierce on Monday. His Longhorns tenure ended with a 10-2 upset loss to Louisiana in the College Station regional on June 2.
Pierce was still contracted to be the coach of the Longhorns next season. He apparently did not feel confident in returning to the program after the loss to UL, as he told the assembled media after the game:
"We're judged 100% on a win and a loss, but you've got to get into the ingredients of this program to understand how good it is," Pierce said (h/t Austin American-Statesman). "That's from our support staff throughout our players. The questions of will I return? That's not in my hands.
"I know how well that our team plays, and I know how well our staff has worked. I've been doing this a long time, and we've had a ton of success."
What about his contract with the Texas Longhorns? Let's look at what is known about his contract situation.
What is known about David Pierce's contract with the Texas Longhorns?
What is known about David Pierce's contract is that he had two more seasons remaining after he signed a contract extension in 2021. The deal saw that Pierce would receive $1.2 million as a base salary per season. However, the language of the contract dictated that in the case of Pierce being fired without cause, which was the case on Monday, he would receive 70% of his remaining base salary.
It's unclear if that is to be paid as a singular lump sum or if it will be 70% of his contract each year on a similar pay scale from when he was coaching the Longhorns. However, that number would equate to $1.68 million throughout the contract.
