Did Christian Moore get drafted? Looking at Tennessee baseball star's MLB Draft 2024 selection
Christian Moore entered the 2024 MLB draft following a fabulous season with Tennessee. He played a critical role in helping the Vols win their first College World Series title.
With all eyes on Day 1 of the MLB draft at the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, on Sunday, fans were curious to learn whether Moore would get picked in the early rounds.
Did Christian Moore get drafted?
Christian Moore was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2024 MLB draft. He was the No. 8 pick by the Angels. Notably, Moore became the highest-drafted player from Tennessee since Tony Vitello took over as coach in June 2017.
Moore finished his junior year at Tennessee with a program-record 34 homers in 2024. He also had a staggering .375 batting average with 74 RBIs, which ranks seventh in a single season in Vols history.
In Tennessee's opening game of the College World Series, Moore hit for the cycle against Florida State. He hit a pair of doubles, a triple and a mammoth 440-foot home run to help the Vols to a 12-11 victory.
In his final season with the Vols, Moore earned multiple first-team All-American honors. After being drafted by the Angels in the first round, Moore heaped praise on Tennessee coach Tony Vitello, who was in the first row at the arena.
In an interview with MLB Network analyst and former Cardinals star Xavier Scruggs, Moore said:
"The GOAT sitting over there, Tony Vitello, much love to you. Thank you for everything.I'm a winner, I'm a competitor. I don't know what's going to happen the next two years, but I promise you I'll get a ring for sure. It's in my blood."
The Angels are fourth in the AL West. Ron Washington's team has struggled with its batting line-up in the past few years, so Moore's addition to the roster will be a big boost for the LA outfit.
