Full list of commitments who have flipped to Jim Schlossnagle’s Longhorns from Texas A&M ft. 2024 RHP Drew Rerick
The after effects of Jim Schlossnagle's appointment as the new head coach of the Texas Longhorns continue to haunt his former employers and the Longhorns' most bitter rivals, the Texas A&M Aggies. Schlossnagle also took Nolan Cain and Max Weiner from his staff to the Longhorns, which could negatively impact the Aggies.
While the Aggies' appointment of Michael Earley as new coach convinced some of their stars to exit the transfer portal and commit to College Station, that's not quite the case with some of their high school commits.
Three commits flipped to the Longhorns to join Schlossnagle in Austin, which could be a big blow for the Aggies in the 2025 NCAA Baseball season. Here, we look at the three players who have made this massive decision.
Three Texas A&M Aggies commits flip to the Texas Longhorns
#3 Adrian Rodriguez, RHP
Rodriguez was the first among the three Aggies commits to flip to the Longhorns, doing so four days ago. He excelled for Flower Mound High School as their starting shortstop, recording 46 RBI in the Class 6A championship.
In his junior year, Flower Mound won the Class 6A championship. His commitment to the Longhorns will see the Aggies miss out on an exciting hitting talent who could have strengthened their line-up massively. He's the 17th ranked prospect in Texas as per Five Tool Baseball.
#2 Bryce Navarre, LHP
Soon after Rodriguez, Navarre also flipped from the Aggies to the Longhorns. According to Perfect Game, he has one of the best curveballs in the class, recording spin rates exceeding 3,100 RPM.
His arsenal came in very handy for Montgomery High School, as he dominated some of the best hitters in the country, recording 22 strikeouts in 10 PG innings in 2023.
With Schlossnagle's knack for developing pitchers and Max Weiner's expertise, Navarre could become one of the most feared pitchers in college baseball. He's currently the ninth-ranked prospect in Texas, as per Five Tool Baseball.
#1 Drew Rerick, RHP
Rerick became the latest Aggies commit to flip to the Longhorns, with news of his decision released on Friday. He enjoyed incredible success on the mound with Fargo Davies High School, evolving into one of the top pitching prospects in the country.
With a fastball touching 98mph and lethal breaking balls in his arsenal, Rerick could prove to be a top asset for the Longhorns in the years to come. However, he's also being eyed by MLB teams in this year's draft.
He ranks 140th among prospects for the 2024 MLB Draft, with projections suggesting he could go in the early rounds. Should he choose to further his career in the major leagues, Schlossnagle and the Longhorns would be obliged to dive into the transfer portal to find a suitable replacement.
