How many Texas Longhorns players could get drafted in the 2024 MLB Draft?

The Texas Longhorns are one of the best teams in college baseball history. Hence, the program has produced an array of MLB talent.

However, the Longhorns had a season to forget in 2024, as they were dumped out of the Regionals. This ended the tenure of former head coach David Pierce.

Despite the flaws to their season, we expect at least three Longhorns to get their names called at the Draft. Let's take a look at the players in closer detail.

Three Texas Longhorns players in contention to be picked in the 2024 MLB Draft

Here's a look at the three likeliest Longhorns to hear their names in this month's Draft:

1. Jalin Flores, Shortstop

Jalin Flores was with the Texas Longhorns for two seasons, and the program will certainly feel his departure in the upcoming season. Flores had a stellar 95 percent fielding rate as a Longhorn, and he was a key part of the team's defensive fielding dominance.

In his final season with the Longhorns, Flores averaged .340 while at bat, racking up 82 hits, 52 runs, and 18 runs. He showed the collegiate game that his Big 12 All-Freshman team nod in 2023 wasn't a fluke.

According to The Athletic, Jalin Flores is projected to be selected with the 70th overall pick of the 2024 Draft.

2. Jared Thomas, Centerfielder

Another key player on the Texas Longhorns who is heading to the draft is Jared Thomas. Thomas spent two years with the program and recorded putouts for the Longhorns with a mere seven errors while fielding.

Jared Thomas was a dynamic hitter in Texas, amassing a stat line of .992 fielding percentage with a collegiate high of .994 during Year 1. During his college baseball career, Thomas racked up a stat line of 33.6 percent percentage, 156 hits and 115 runs.

According to The Athletic, Jared Thomas is projected to be selected with the 80th overall pick of the 2024 Draft.

3. Lebarron Johnson Jr., Pitcher

Lebarron Johnson Jr. was a key right-handed pitcher for the Longhorns. Johnson Jr. had an impressive start to his Texas career, amassing a 3.04 ERA through his first two years with the Longhorns.

However, Johnson Jr. experienced a significant drop-off at the worst time possible. He averaged 5.60 earned runs for the duration of the 2024 season. For his Texas Longhorns career, Johnson Jr. allowed 164 hits while recording 203 strikeouts. He recorded an 11-9 win-loss record with the program.

Hence, Lebarron Johnson Jr. will likely hear his name called much later in the 2024 MLB Draft.
