How many times has Texas A&M been to the College World Series? 2024 CWS runner-up's history explored
Texas A&M is one of the most consistent baseball teams in the NCAA tournament's history. The program have been to the College World Series eight times.
Following their 2024 College World Series run, let's look at their history at the CWS stage.
The Texas A&M Aggies have made College World Series appearances in five different decades
The Texas A&M Aggies have made it to the College World Series in different decades in their long and distinguished history. The Aggies reached the College World Series in 1951, 1964, 1993, 1999, 2011, 2017, 2022, and 2024. Their best run of form had been in recent years as they've made two CWS appearances in the past three years under Jim Schlossnagle.
The Aggies' best performance was in 2024 under the watchful guidance of third-year head coach Schlossnagle. Schlossnagle led the franchise to the deepest postseason run.
The Aggies were a game away from winning the 2024 CWS
The Texas A&M Aggies enjoyed an unbeaten start to the 2024 collegiate baseball postseason and secured a title game appearance against the number one-seeded Tennessee Vols. The Aggies took Game 1 of the CWS title game with an impressive 9-5 victory. Hence, they were just a game away from capturing their first-ever College World Series title.
However, Tony Vitello coached the Vols, who had other plans, as they won the next two games to bring the title to Tennessee. Thus, it ended arguably the most outstanding season in the history of the Aggies and one that promised a lot, especially during the later years.
Furthermore, the Texas A&M Aggies are in search of a new head coach, as ESPN reports that Jim Schlossnagle has accepted the vacant head coach job at the Texas Longhorns. This news comes just a day after the Aggies' 6-5 defeat to the Tennessee Vols in Game 3 of the College World Series title matchup. Schlossnagle departs with a 135-62 record, which includes two MCWS visits in his decorated tenure.
Jim Schlossnagle and the Texas Longhorns had long been linked due to Schlossnagle's impressive résumé with the Aggies and at TCU and his relationship with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte, his long-term boss at TCU. The duo will now be tasked with bringing sustained glory to the Longhorns.
The Aggies next task is to find a coach that can build on the success enjoyed by Schlossnagle, and potentially take them to the next level.
