Is Konnor Griffin committed to LSU? Exploring No. 1 high school prospect's commitment status
Konnor Griffin is a special talent who has enthralled several baseball fans across the country this year. The teenager is currently the No. 9 overall draft prospect and the highest overall high school prospect, which would suggest he is on the radar of many teams in the major leagues.
But before that, on December 16, 2022, Griffin committed to the LSU Tigers.
He took his excellence to another level this season, breaking Jackson Prep's record for stolen bases in just 14 games. He recorded a batting average of .559 this season, scoring nine home runs and 39 RBIs in 43 games. Griffin, armed with a fastball averaging 93mph, also went 10-0 on the mound this season.
His efforts made him the 2023-24 Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year, which further exemplified his potential.
Decoding Konnor Griffin's commitment to LSU Tigers
He has starred for Jackson Prep on multiple occasions at the plate and on the mound. In fact, he reclassified himself from the 2025 to the 2024 draft cycle, which shows just how immense his talent is. This leaves him with a difficult choice: play college baseball for the Tigers or move up to the MLB.
During an interview with MLB Network, Griffin spoke about his commitment to the Tigers, admitting he looks forward to playing in Baton Rouge:
"LSU is a special place. Jay Johnson, what a great coach he is. He’s a winner. It would be super cool to go play in Baton Rouge for LSU and I have two great opportunities ahead of me," Griffin said.
He may have given Tigers fans a sigh of relief when he mentioned that he goes all in once he makes a commitment:
"I have LSU stuff all in my room and once I commit somewhere, I'm all in. That's kind of who I am.
"It’d be cool to go play in Baton Rouge. The fans are unreal. I know they would like me to make an appearance in Baton Rouge. We’ll see what happens. Two great opportunities, but I’m gonna be ready for either one of those," he added.
Griffin is one of the top prospects who will take part in this year's MLB draft combine on July 14. As of now, he is one of 10 signings made by the Tigers who will feature in the event.
While his interview with MLB Network may have assured LSU that he will represent them next season, things could take a different turn if an MLB team offers a contract for his services.
