"It's a point of pride": SEC Commish Greg Sankey excited for Tennessee vs Texas A&M CWS final as both teams battle for first-ever title

Greg Sankey has been doing wonders as the SEC Commissioner and the conference, as a whole, has been moving in the right direction.

The conference has both the Texas A&M Aggies and the Tennessee Volunteers, who are currently competing in the 2024 College World Series Finals. On top of that, the SEC is preparing to officially add the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners to the conference in the next couple of months.

While making an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show, Sankey discussed his pride at seeing two SEC teams competing in the 2024 College World Series Finals.

"We had the equal split between us [the SEC] and the ACC teams in Omaha and to watch the way Tennessee and Texas A&M have moved through their season, and also move through the tournament and have this championship opportunity is exciting.
"It's a point of pride to have it happen again. The only time post-Covid we didn't have both teams in the national championship series was Oklahoma and Ole Miss in 2022."

This run of excellence on the field for the SEC has been something to marvel at as it continues to improve the status and visibility of the conference.

Will the SEC be interested in additional conference realignment after Texas and Oklahoma join?

The SEC has been viewed as one of, if not the, premier conference in college athletics. Programs from various sports, belonging to the SEC, have been competing for and winning national championships.

However, with the recent and ongoing issues with the Atlantic Coast Conference, there could be another wave of conference realignment around the corner.

If the ACC has teams leaving the conference, it would be intriguing to see how Greg Sankey and the rest of the SEC attracts them.

They are dealing from a position of strength here and could add a select few schools with rich histories and in the general location. One potential pairing of additions that would be intriguing is the Florida State Seminoles or the Miami Hurricanes.

This would inevitably give the Southeastern Conference complete control over the state of Florida, a hotbed for college football. They already have two of the biggest schools in the state of Texas as well. While Sankey and the SEC do not need to add any schools, those would be intriguing possibilities, to say the least.
