Jac Caglianone pitching stats: Florida star's numbers from the mound explored

Jac Caglianone is so good at pitching that the Florida Gators are more than willing to let the MLB prospect do both pitching and batting in Omaha. The Plant High School product is a consensus top-five MLB Draft prospect for a reason.

As we count down to the 2024 College World Series decider, let's look at the pitching stats of arguably the best two-way prospect in recent MLB Draft history. We'll also examine whether Caglianone can pitch in the pros.

Jac Caglianone pitching stats

According to Baseball Reference, Jac Caglianone has pitched in two of his three seasons in Florida. He did not pitch in his freshman season as he was recovering from Tommy John surgery after his high school career.

In 2023, Caglianone had a win-loss record of 7-4, 4.34 ERA, 74.2 IP, and 36 ER in 18 appearances. He had a season-high nine strikeouts against Vanderbilt on May 14, 2023.

In 2024, Caglianone's win-loss record is 5-2, with a 4.71 ERA, 72.2 IP, and 38 ER in 15 appearances. He had a season-high 11 strikeouts against Miami on March 3, 2024.

Will Jac Caglianone pitch in the MLB?

Jac Caglianone's improvement as a hitter in the 2024 college baseball season has led scouts to identify him as a better hitter than a pitcher. Before this season, it was more of a coin toss, but now scouts see him as possessing top-five talent as a hitter.

Most two-way collegiate stars are made to choose one side of the ball when they enter the MLB. Players like Shohei Ohtani are exceptions rather than the norm. However, not all collegiate stars can boast of having an 11-strikeout game while still being a threat with the bat.

Caglianone is a special talent, and hopefully, he'll be drafted by a team that appreciates his two-way tendencies. Caglianone has proved that he can pitch at an elite and consistent level; it remains to be seen whether he will be able to compete against the best of the best.

However, at this point in time, it's likelier that Caglianone will be batting rather than pitching when he gets to the MLB.
