LSU 2024 MLB Draft projections: Predicting landing spots for Tigers players in the MLB Draft
The LSU Tigers had their back-to-back national title bid ending unceremoniously, as they succumbed to North Carolina in the final of the Chapel Hill regional.
There are a lot of speculations hanging with the Tigers' final lineup for the 2024-25 season as some of its key players might get their names mentioned in the 2024 MLB Draft slated on July 14-16.
Three LSU players are more likely to be picked in the annual event. Here are the players who might get selected and their projected landing spots in the 2024 MLB Draft.
LSU Tigers 2024 MLB Draft projections
#1. Tommy White
Projection: Round 1, No. 30 overall, Texas Rangers
Tommy White played three seasons for NC State and LSU and appeared in 187 games. White had a batting average of .355 on 279 hits out of 787 at-bats. The third baseman scored 179 runs and notched 75 home runs and 249 RBIs. The 6-foot-1 right-hander had 129 strikeouts and 73 walks in three seasons for the Tigers. White had an on-base percentage of .419 and slugging rate of .704.
In defense, White recorded 294 outs in 318 catches for a .925 fielding percentage. He put out 154 runners in 187 games for the Tigers.
#2. Gage Jump
Projection: Round 2, No. 62 overall, Atlanta Braves
Gage Jump proved to be a reliable starter for the LSU Tigers when he was acquired from the UCLA Bruins. Jump played 17 games (15 starts) for the Tigers this past season and was 6-2 with an ERA of 3.47.
The left-hander played 83 innings and recorded one save and one complete game while striking out 101 and walking 22. Overall, Jump had 24 appearances with two teams, 18 of which were starts. He had a 7-3 record and a 3.53 ERA. He had three saves, 123 strikeouts and 33 walks in 99.1 innings.
Jump is projected as a second-round pick, with National League East power Atlanta Braves selecting him as the 62nd overall choice.
#3. Luke Holman
Projection: Round 2, 66th overall, Tampa Bay Rays
Luke Holman spent three seasons with Alabama and LSU. Holman excelled as a starter in his last two seasons, going 16-8 in 31 starts.
In his three-season stint in the collegiate ranks, the six-foot-four right-hander played 191 2/3 innings with a 16-10 record and 3.43 ERA. He had 238 strikeouts and 72 walks in his career. Holman is projected to be the 66th overall pick for Tampa Bay in the competitive balance round B.
