Aggies AD Trev Alberts highlights players’ involvement during the hiring process: “They’ve earned the right to have a voice"
The Texas A&M Aggies continue to find themselves in the news regarding their baseball program. Coach Jim Schlossnagle led the team within one game of winning the 2024 College World Series and then left for the Texas Longhorns opening 24 hours after the season ended.
Schlossnagle was bringing a majority of the coaching staff with him, but the Aggies secured hitting coach Michael Earley to stay as their next coach.
While speaking to the media during Earley's unveiling on Tuesday afternoon, Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts revealed that he allowed the Aggie players to have a say in which coach was going to be the head of the program going forward.
"It doesn't mean they're hiring the coach, but they've earned the right to have a voice... It's certainly not my baseball program, it's theirs," Alberts said.
This is something that is a bit of an interesting twist, as this gives the players a feeling that they have a say in what the athletic department does for the program. It will be intriguing to see what happens now with Michael Earley as the coach of the program going forward.
What should people expect out of the Texas A&M Aggies next season?
The Texas A&M Aggies have an extremely talented roster, as evident by their run in the 2024 College World Series. However, they have a handful of critical players who are now eligible for the 2024 MLB draft, and likely some of those selected will forego their college eligibility to join the minor leagues.
With the addition of the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners to the Southeastern Conference beginning next season, there is a lot of excitement about the strength of the conference. Texas A&M should remain competitive and still have some key pieces on its roster to continue being a significant threat to winning the College World Series.
The program will still get some key pieces on the NCAA transfer portal and have a strong recruiting class entering Texas A&M. It will be interesting to see how they gel with a new voice leading things, but the Aggies are going to be exciting going forward.
