"An $80 million upgrade to Blue Bell": Texas A&M AD Trev Alberts announces major step toward making 'best stadium in college baseball' for the Aggies

Trev Alberts and the Texas A&M Aggies are stepping up their game. 2024 was a game-changing year for them as the College Station school made it to its first College World Series finals in program history. Despite losing to Tennessee and subsequently losing head coach Jim Schlossnagle to rival state school Texas, the Aggies are determined to improve their baseball program.

During Michael Earley's presentation on Tuesday, Athletic Director Trev Alberts shared his vision for the future, with an 80 million investment in the baseball stadium being the central theme:

"We're going to have the best stadium in college baseball. With your help, that of our donors and regents, an $80 million upgrade to Blue Bell is going to be a game changer. It's going to be the best atmosphere and environment in college baseball, that's the vision. Finally, we're going to have the best fan experience because that's what changes the whole environment at Blue Bell."

Trev Alberts on Jim Schlossnagle's exit

Alberts spoke with the Houston Chronicle about an exchange he had with the former Texas A&M coach before the Super Regional clash against Oregon:

“We talked at length, I said, ‘Are you frustrated? Is there anything I can do?’ And at the end of the conversation I said, ‘Jim, if you’re not happy here and you want to leave, that’s OK. But please don’t hurt our program and don’t hurt our kids.’ That’s what I said.
“And he said, ‘I will never do that, Trev.’ I said, ‘OK.’ ”

Alberts told the Chronicle that when Schlossnagle missed a meeting on June 11th, regarding the renovation at Blue Bell, he knew something was on:

“And he didn’t come to the meeting, two days later, I called (a search) firm and said, ‘Let’s get ready to do a search.’ ”

On June 3rd and 4th, he attempted to meet with the coach but on both occasions Schlossnagle canceled. Things did not end well and Schlossnagle ended up joining the Longhorns in the last week of June.
