"Best decision for my last year of college baseball": Penn State transfer Wyatt Henseler speaks highly of Texas A&M after re-committing to the Aggies
Former Penn Quakers star Wyatt Henseler made another U-turn in his commitment by ensuring he will represent the Texas A&M Aggies in the 2025 season. This is an encouraging sign for last season's College World Series runners-up, who are looking to build a solid team to make a deep postseason run next year.
Soon after their defeat to the Tennessee Volunteers in the College World Series Finals, Jim Schlossnagle announced his surprise move to the Texas Longhorns, leaving them without a head coach. This sparked several players to hit the transfer portal, with Henseler opening his recruitment following this decision.
However, the promotion of hitting coach Michael Earley to head coach encouraged Henseler, who drew interest from the Texas Longhorns and LSU Tigers, to re-commit to the Aggies. He gave his sign of approval to the Aggies with a heartfelt message, terming this the best move of his college baseball career.
"After reopening my recruitment, Texas A&M was and will always be the best decision for my last year of college baseball," Henseler said on X/Twitter.
Henseler was a standout for the Penn Quakers in his senior season. In 49 games played, he recorded 22 home runs and 56 RBIs at an average of .360. He was named the Ivy League Player of the Year and earned All-Ivy honors for the third season in a row.
Wyatt Henseler set to play alongside Jace LaViolette and other Texas A&M Aggies stars
Earley's appointment as the Aggies' new head coach not only triggered Henseler's re-commitment, but also the return of key players to the Aggies by subsequently exiting from the transfer portal. Jace LaViolette, Gavin Grahovac, Kaeden Kent, Justin Lamkin and Caden Sorrell all committed their futures to College Station, which would reassure fans of another possible CWS run next season.
The addition of Henseler is bound to add more firepower to the Aggies' hitting line-up, who broke records en route to the College World Series Finals last season. With Earley's experience, Henseler will hope to end his final year in college baseball by helping the Aggies win their maiden CWS title next year as the program looks to strengthen the team with more additions.
