Big 12 player of the year Max Belyeu confirms return to Texas Longhorns for next season
Texas Longhorns right fielder Max Belyeu will return to the program for the 2025 collegiate baseball season. The reigning Big 12 Player of the Year is poised to be a part of Jim Schlossnagle's revolution with the Longhorns.
Max Belyeu is fresh off a breakthrough season with the bat and should be a key part of the program.
Who is Max Belyeu?
Max Belyeu is a key right fielder for the Texas Longhorns and one of the first names on their team sheet. The Aledo product has been with the Longhorns since 2023, steadily rising the ranks to become a key part of the squad.
Belyeu started his Texas career by featuring in 15 games in his freshman year. He started four of those games as the designated hitter, batting 300 with one double, two RBI, and scoring three runs.
He improved in his sophomore season as he took on a bigger role on the team. He hit 17 home runs, batting 341 with 14 doubles and 49 RBI, and produced a 1.147 OPS.
Belyeu's strong arm scared opponents from trying to steal extra bases as he amassed five outfield assists. For his efforts, he won the Big 12 Player of the Year.
What can you expect from Max Belyeu and the Texas Longhorns in 2025?
Expect Belyeu to build on his success in 2024 as part of the squad of since-departed coach David Pierce. However, Belyeu has room for improvement, as his work in the outfield featured a couple of errors in 2024.
Belyeu and his teammates can look forward to working with a new coach. Former Texas A&M Aggies HC Jim Schlossnagle has taken over the reins at the Longhorns. Schlossnagle is known for his player development, and that should be a cause for optimism for his new team.
Longhorns fans can expect a College World Series push by their team this season. That's the least acceptable standard, considering the work that goes into recruiting the right players to fit the new coaching staff's philosophy of play.
