College baseball insider clarifies major misunderstanding about 2024 MLB draft prospect Jac Caglianone
Jac Caglianone is currently ranked third in the top prospects for the upcoming MLB Draft. While he is set to embark on the next chapter of his baseball journey by being a top pick in the draft, a strange rumor has been doing the rounds.
Earlier today, baseball insider Kendall Rogers spoke about the possibility of college baseball stars choosing to play NCAA Baseball instead of choosing to sign for an MLB team due to the lucrative amount of NIL money on offer.
This triggered a rumor on Caglianone's future, with an avid fan indicating that he chose to stay with the Florida Gators instead of making the step up to the big leagues.
This rumor was immediately quashed by Rogers, who said the player in question it was not the Gators' two-way sensation, despite admitting that would be impressive for the 2023 College World Series runners-up.
"I can confirm it is NOT Jac Cags, although that would be awesome," Rogers said.
This further reinforced Caglianone's imminent move to the major leagues, where he looks set to become a top-five overall pick in the draft.
Jac Caglianone broke Florida Gators records in his junior season
The 6'5" superstar enjoyed arguably his strongest season in college baseball this year. Caglianone broke his own single-season record for home runs (35) while also breaking the all-time program record for home runs (75) this year.
He also drove in 72 runs this year with an average of .419, which was the third highest in the country.
He also produced excellent performances on the mound for the Gators, going 5-2 while recording 83 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.76 in 73.2 innings pitched.
His performances helped the Gators defy the odds and make a deep postseason run, featuring in the College World Series as the only unseeded team in the field of eight.
Caglianone is projected to represent either the Oakland Athletics or the Chicago White Sox, who have the fourth and fifth overall picks respectively in the first round of the draft. The 2024 MLB Draft is slated to take place on July 14, with every team set to select players in 20 rounds across three days.
