“Eyes up, keep climbing Pops” - Jim Schlossnagle’s son Jackson hypes up Texas HC for induction into ABCA Hall of Fame
Jim Schlossnagle, the newly minted Texas baseball coach, was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Wednesday. His son, Jackson Schlossnagle, celebrated the accomplishments of his father with a post on X.
"Yes sir!!!!!!! So deserving!!!! Eyes up, keep climbing Pops," Jackson wrote.
Jim Schlossnagle was one of eight coaches announced as part of the 2025 class, the ABCA announced Wednesday. Schlossnagle has a coaching record of 946-455 (.675) over 23 seasons in a career that has taken him to UNLV, TCU, Texas A&M, and now to Texas.
In 2024, he led the Aggies to their first College World Series finals in program history before leaving the school immediately after losing the title to Tennessee.
Texas A&M's Chancellor takes a shot at Jim Schlossnagle
Jim Schlossnagle was embroiled in a hasty exit from Texas A&M. After openly telling the media, that he wouldn't be leaving College Station for the foreseeable future in the aftermath of the College World Series, he went back on his promise to Aggieland and joined the Texas Longhorns in less than 24 hours.
Not surprisingly, there's no lost love from the Texas A&M authorities, with the chancellor of the school, John Sharp, recently telling the Houston Chronicle:
"Considering the shady way this all happened & the final result, A&M got the far better part of this deal, a coach loyal to his players & school is worth his weight in gold. Now we've got that coach."
The remarks came during Tuesday's presentation of Michael Earley as the new baseball coach of the Aggies. In the same event, Texas A&M's Athletic Director Trev Alberts also told the Chronicle:
“We hosted a regional, and after the regional, I said, 'Can we meet?' We scheduled a meeting for Monday (June 3), and he canceled. We scheduled a meeting for that Tuesday, and he canceled... That Wednesday I went and sat … (Schlossnagle’s) son was in his office, and so I sat in (assistant coach) Nolan Cain’s office. I talked for 40 minutes with Nolan Cain until he came.”
As both the school and coach went their separate ways, it remains to be seen what the future will hold for the two. They'll meet soon again, as the Texas Longhorns are moving to the Southeasteren Conference from the upcoming season onward.
