Florida's Jac Caglianone thanks Gators alumnus Matt LaPorta and wife for supporting team in 2024 CWS game: "Huge appreciation for you and your family"
Jac Caglianone was unstoppable when he played against the Kentucky Wildcats in the College World Series elimination round on Wednesday. He set a program record for career home runs, thus helping Florida win against their opponent and advancing to play against Texas A&M for the semifinals, which they eventually lost.
The Kentucky Wildcats vs. the Florida Gators game was attended by former alumnus Matt LaPorta. An interesting point to note is that Caglianone had previously tied for the Gators' career home-run record with LaPorta, who was a top-10 pick in the 2006 MLB draft.
Caglianone thanked LaPorta and his family for attending the game on Instagram.
"Huge appreciation for you and your family for the support!"
It took LaPorta four seasons and more than 700 at-bats to reach 74 home runs, while Jac Caglianone achieved the feat with 628 collegiate at-bats.
Can Jac Caglianone go No. 1 overall in the 2024 MLB draft?
The junior two-way athlete has become a Gators star for his performance in the 2024 Men's College World Series. Many believe that Caglianone can become the first overall pick in the upcoming draft, meaning the Cleveland Guardians can choose him to be their star rookie.
Caglianone could be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft as he is an impactful hitter and also an impressive pitcher. Two ways stars are rare and everyone wants them.
Despite missing his freshman season because of Tommy John surgery, he can hit home runs with little to no effort. This makes him a powerful weapon to provide stability in the middle of a lineup. Another positive is that Jac Caglianone has only struck out 104 times in 162 games and if that can translate into the MLB, he is well worth taking early.
