Former Aggies HC Jim Schlossnagle reveals the exact moment that turned his head toward Texas job
Jim Schlossnagle has been in the news this week after leaving the Texas A&M Aggies to join in-state rivals, the Texas Longhorns. The coach has now opened up on the moment that made his head turn toward the Texas job.
During an interview with Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Schlossnagle said that Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts had given him the green light to explore a new challenge just before the regionals.
"Trev came to me the day before the regional to have a conversation. He asked me if I was frustrated. I told him that I had some frustration with how slow the ballpark process was going and that it was tough to operate without a sport administrator, but I was committed to working through it." Schlossnagle said.
"He then made a comment to me — kind of comparing his situation of leaving his alma mater, Nebraska. He said to me, ‘You know, Jim, if you ever don’t feel like this is the place for you, that’s OK, and it’s OK to move on.’"
Schlossnagle explained his feelings after conversing with Alberts, who was appointed by the program in March, and suggested that it played a part in his decision to leave Texas A&M.
"I was a little taken aback by that, and that was the moment that I began to think that maybe this wasn’t going to work out. No one ever contacted me or my agent about a new contract for our staff, so I just decided to focus on getting our team to Omaha and winning." Schlossnagle added.
Jim Schlossnagle traded his maroon for burnt orange just a few days after Texas A&M lost the College World Series finals to Tennessee on Monday.
