Gators' star Jac Caglianone named John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year: Reports

The Florida Gators may have seen the last of two-way player Jac Caglianone in the team's jersey, but he is not done picking up awards. It is being reported that he will be named the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year.

Caglianone has been a significant player and put together one of the best seasons that we have ever seen in the history of college baseball. He was already named a first-team All-SEC and All-American. However, the 6-foot-5 junior southpaw added another trophy to his mantle.

During the 2024 college baseball season, Jac Caglianone finished going 5-2 with a 4.76 ERA on the mound in 73.2 innings of work. His .225 batting average against was amongst the best in the nation.

However, his excellence was at the plate as he broke the Florida program record in home runs and hits while leading the team in every singular slash category.

Offensively, he had a .419/.544/.875 slash line with 35 home runs, 72 RBIs and 83 runs scored. Caglianone had 58 walks compared to 26 strikeouts as well, so this award is definitely well deserved.

Where will Jac Caglianone be selected in the 2024 MLB Draft?

The 2024 MLB Draft is approaching in a few weeks and there are a lot of discussions of where Jac Caglianone was drafted. The top five teams in this year's draft are the Cleveland Guardians, Colorado Rockies, Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics.

Caglianone is expected to be selected within these five picks. The only two players who have a chance to compete against him are Wake Forest Demon Deacons pitcher Chase Burns and Georgia Bulldogs third baseman Charlie Condon.

With Caglianone's ability to dominate, the Rockies selecting him third overall would be a perfect fit with his extreme power and the thinness of the Colorado air. Plus, imagine seeing 81 home games of Jac Caglianone hitting at Coors Field. This would be the best spot for his statistics.

However, in terms of winning, the Cincinnati Reds would be a great fit as they have a young core of players on their roster. That would mesh well with Caglianone's bat in the middle of the lineup.
