Georgia 2024 MLB Draft Projections: Predicting landing spots for Bulldogs
The 2024 MLB draft is set to begin in just under two weeks, as the first round will take place on July 14. The 20-round draft will occur over a three-day period.
While players selected in the NBA and NFL drafts are ineligible to return to college, that is not the case for baseball players as they can choose to sign a contract or return to the collegiate ranks. Teams are also less inclined to draft for needs as minor league development is a key part of each draft pick's path to the major leagues.
The Georgia Bulldogs had a strong bounce-back season as they fell one win short of reaching the College World Series. They have two players who are expected to hear their names called in this year's draft. Take a look at where each of those players could land below.
Georgia Bulldogs 2024 MLB draft projections
#1, Charlie Condon, outfielder/third baseman
Projection: Round 1, No. 2, Cincinnati Reds
Charlie Condon continued his elite collegiate career with an incredible 2024 season, hitting .433 with 37 home runs, 78 RBIs, 84 runs, 100 hits and a 1.565 OPS. He took home the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy as the best amateur baseball player and national college player of the year, respectively. While he is in contention to be selected first, the prediction here is that he lands second with the Cincinnati Reds.
#2, Corey Collins, first baseman
Projection: Round 6, No. 171, New York Yankees
Corey Collins had an elite season in 2024, hitting .354 with 20 home runs, 58 RBIs, 55 runs, 56 hits and a 1.346 OPS. While he is not projected to come off the board until later in the 2024 MLB draft, the New York Yankees are a perfect fit for the first baseman.
While the Yankees have been among the best teams in baseball in 2024, they have gotten virtually no production from the first base position. Collins could change that, and his lefty swing should play well at Yankee Stadium.
