"I will not let you down": Texas A&M's new HC Michael Earley targets redemption after major blow to Aggies in 2024 College World Series Final

Michael Earley was named the new head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday following the departure of Jim Schlossnagle. While he had originally appeared set to follow the former Aggies head coach as the hitting coach of the Texas Longhorns, those plans changed as he returned to Texas A&M.

X account TexAgs shared comments from Earley after he accepted the vacant head coaching position, tweeting:

"My family and I couldn't be more excited for this opportunity. Thank you, General Welsh and Trev Alberts for putting your trust in me. Being a part of this University and this program are a dream come true. I will not let you down. See you in Omaha!," Earley said.

Earley spent the past three years as the Aggies hitting coach serving on Schlossnagle's staff. The first-time head coach is the 21st head coach in program history.

What did Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts say about hiring Michael Earley?

Trev Alberts announced that the program would be hiring Michael Earley in an official press release. The Texas A&M athletic director stated:

"I am happy to announce that Michael Earley has been hired as our new Aggie baseball head coach. Michael is a very talented coach and recruiter, but what stood out to me was his character and the relationships he has built with his current and former players. During our interview process he was really impressive.
"I think it helps that he knows our current roster, which finished second in the country, and he also knows Aggieland and the 12th Man. I am excited about the future of Aggie baseball. Please help me welcome home Michael and his family back to Aggieland." [h/t 12thman.com]

The Aggies finished as the runner-up in the 2024 College World Series, losing 6-5 to the Tennessee Volunteers in a winner-take-all College World Series Finals Game 3.

Jim Schlossnagle departed as head coach less than 24 hours later, joining the Texas Longhorns in the same position. After spending nearly a week conducting a coaching search, Texas A&M hired Earley on Sunday.
