"It's always beautiful to be part of history": Grammy winner Pitbull cheers for Texas after headlining Longhorns' SEC celebration

The Texas Longhorns officially joined the Southeastern Conference on Monday. During celebrations of the new Longhorns era, Grammy Award winner Pitbull congratulated the program and wished Texas the best for the future.

While speaking to ESPN's Marty Smith, the rapper was asked the reason behind his presence at UT on Sunday night, headlining the event. The "Culo" artist responded by saying he wanted to be part of the Longhorns' historic switch to the SEC.

"Why are we here today? It's always beautiful to be a part of history," Pitbull said. "It's always beautiful to see a team, a university that worked hard, that can be able to take it to the next level. So, with that said, I'm here to congratulate and celebrate."

During the celebrations on Sunday night, Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey also welcomed the Texas program into the conference. The SEC now expands to 16 teams following the arrival of the Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners.

"I realize I am the one thing standing between you and Pitbull, and I'm smart enough to know that you are done listening to me except for one more thing: I want to say welcome to the University of Texas and the Texas Longhorns to the Southeastern Conference! I'm gonna go make some noise!" Sankey said.

As per multiple reports, the Longhorns had planned to join the SEC in 2025. However, the program struck a deal with the Big 12 to leave a year early.

The Texas Longhorns are switching from the Big 12 after 28 years in the conference.

Last week, the Texas Longhorns baseball team appointed Jim Schlossnage as its new head coach. The 53-year-old will lead the program into the first game of the Southeastern Conference next year.

Schlossnagle left Texas A&M to join the Longhorns only a few days after leading the Aggies to their maiden College World Series finals. Texas A&M took a 1-0 lead in the finals series over Tennessee but fell short of winning the national championship.

Schlossnagle arrives in Texas with 22 years of head coaching experience. It will be interesting to see how he fares with the program in the SEC.
