“Keep shining your light” - David Pollack lauds Kentucky baseball HC Nick Mingione for spiritual reference during press conference
Kentucky coach Nick Mingione delivered a powerful message on his faith after the Wildcats booked a ticket to Omaha for the 2024 College World Series. Many fans, including former NFL linebacker and sports analyst David Pollack, felt uplifted by Mignoine's comments during his post-game press conference on Sunday after the Lexington Super Regionals.
On Thursday, Pollack took to social media to laud the Wildcats coach. The former Cincinnati Bengals star posted a short video of Mingione's statements he made about surrendering to the Lord in his press conference and tweeted:
"This is how you live in surrender to the Lord. @Coach_Mingione keep shining your light in Omaha brother!"
Notably, this is the first time Kentucky has reached the World Series.
Mingione was visibly emotional during his press conference after the Wildcats secured a spot in the final eight after beating Oregon State in Game 2 of the Super Regionals. He was with his wife and son during Sunday's press conference.
“And I was a beat-down coach. I was a beat-down coach, and God taught me a valuable lesson,” Mingione said. “I did something that I’ve only done two other times in my life, and I surrendered. I just said, ‘Lord, I’m done. I’m done. I cannot do this on my own anymore.'”
“I was just trying to do it all by myself. And the Lord put it on my heart that I was not using my spiritual gifts that he’s given me, and we had to make changes,” Mingione added.
Mingione took charge of Kentucky in 2017 and has led them to the College World Series in his eighth season.
