Knox Bennett joins brother Stetson Bennett in expanding Georgia Bulldogs dynasty as their latest commit
Stetson Bennett’s brother Knox Bennett is coming to join the Georgia Bulldogs, but not as a football player like the quarterback. Knox took to Instagram to announce his commitment to the school’s baseball program. He is the third of the Bennett brothers to come to Athens to make a career in college sports.
Stetson led the Bulldogs football team to back-to-back national championship titles in 2021 and 2022. He was a walk-on QB who had then transferred out as a junior before returning to write his name in Georgia’s history. His brother, who also started his career at a junior college, said he was "coming home" in his statement announcing his commitment to the Bulldogs' baseball program:
“Let the good times roll, I’M COMING HOME!!” the caption of his Instagram post read.
Knox started out as the first and third baseman for Chipola College, a junior college program in Marianna, Florida. His batting average for the season stood at .350 and included 21 RBI hits along with three home runs. He played high school baseball for Pierce County.
According to his father, Knox will be joining the Bulldogs as a walk-on athlete. His other brother, Luke Bennett, is a part of the Bulldogs' football team as a walk-on wide receiver. Making a career in Athens after walking on into Georgia’s sports programs seems to be running in the Bennett brothers' blood.
A look at Stetson Bennett's stint with Georgia Bulldogs football program
Stetson Bennett joined the Bulldogs as a walk-on QB in 2017, before transferring out to Jones College. He returned on a scholarship in 2019 after Justin Fields transferred to Ohio State, and became a backup QB behind Jake Fromm first, and then D’wan Mathis in 2020.
Bennett took over from Mathis that same year after a series of poor performances from the QB1. But he had to return to the bench at the start of the 2021 season, this time backing up JT Daniels. An oblique injury to Daniels handed Stetson Bennett the starting job, and he never looked back.
Bennett threw for 2,862 passing yards and scored 29 passing touchdowns as he led the Bulldogs to the national title that year. Next year, he threw for a whopping 4,128 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. The Bulldogs went on to repeat their national championship triumph in 2022.
Bennett got a Heisman nomination for his performance, but finished fourth in the voting behind USC’s Caleb Williams, TCU’s Max Duggan and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, who came in first, second and third, respectively.
Stetson Bennett was subsequently picked by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft.
