SEC Baseball Awards 2024: Who won the Player, Coach, and Pitcher of the Year?
The SEC baseball regular season is in the record books, with the Kentucky Wildcats crowned as the regular season champions. The Arkansas Razorbacks and the Tennessee Volunteers also had remarkable seasons and could be considered contenders for the national title later this year.
Now it is the time to take a look back at the regular season and the top performers of one of the premier athletic conferences in the nation.
SEC Baseball Awards 2024
Player of the Year: Georgia's Charlie Condon (1B/OB)
Condon leads the nation in batting average, at a whopping .451. He has also batted 35 home runs in the season, which is the second most by an SEC player in a single season. He's currently on a 24-game hitting streak.
Pitcher of the Year: Arkansas's Hagen Smith (SP)
The Hogs No. 2 starting pitcher broke the school record for most career strikeouts this season, setting a new mark at 349. He's also five strikeouts shy of the Razorbacks single season strikeout record (155). He has so far held batters to a batting average of .135 and had nine wins with no losses for an ERA of 1.52.
Freshman of the Year: Texas A&M's Gavin Gravohac (OF)
The Aggies outfielder currently has a batting average of .322. As a recruit Gravohac was the No. 55 prospect in the nation and the No. 10 outfielder. He is also responsible for 13 home runs for the Aggies so far.
Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Tennessee's Drew Beam (SP)
Imagine playing Div I baseball, majoring in finance, and still having a 3.47 GPA. Sounds hard, eh? That's exactly what Drew Beam is doing for the Volunteers. Add eight wins and a 3.59 ERA to that and you have the makings of an all-around student-athlete.
Coach of the Year: Kentucky's Nick Mingione
Who else could have won it? Mingione led the Wildcats to their second regular season crown in program history. To make it more impressive, he tied a school record of 22 regular season wins. Kentucky started the year unranked and now looks like a prime candidate for the national title with the No. 2 spot in the rankings.
