"Should never be punished for speaking the truth": Dave Portnoy 'sides' with Texas A&M after breakdown over Jim Schlossnagle's exit

In one swift move, Jim Schlossnagle left several Texas A&M Baseball fans infuriated after jumping ship to join their bitter rivals, the Texas Longhorns, as their new head coach. Meanwhile, Barstool's Texas A&M account took a brutal dig at the ex-Aggies coach, which caught the attention of millionaire Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy.

Following news of the 53-year-old's departure, the admin of the page in question uploaded a scathing tweet directed at Schlossnagle following his departure. Soon after the tweet went live, the post was deleted and the admin was locked out of the account.

This was brought to Portnoy's attention, who chose to take the admin's side. Soon after learning what went down, he sided with the tweet put out, questioning what was wrong with it. He requested the lockout to be lifted soon after. He also gave his views on the same as follows:

"I just found about this. I side with the A&M kid. Should never be punished for speaking the truth."

Portney's actions drew praise from fans, with some of them saying emotions often lead to such strong opinions being put out on social media.

"If you aren’t having near psychotic break downs after a coach leaves for a rival why do you even follow college sports," said one fan.
"Most people are unaware of the absolute hatred between A&M and UT-Austin. This hate has gone on for ages! So I do not blame this kid for sending this tweet-I agree with his sentiments," added another.
Another fan said, "He did the 12th man dirty. He deserves it."

Following the Aggies' loss to the Tennessee Volunteers in the championship game of the College World Series, he denied any possibilities of leaving College Station when asked about being a potential replacement for David Pierce as the Texas Longhorns' head coach.

However, the 53-year-old was unveiled as the Longhorns' new head coach within 48 hours of his statement, which irked Texas A&M baseball management and fans beyond belief. With the Longhorns joining the SEC from July 1, the Lone Star Showdown will only intensify further. Schlossnagle will have a major task on his hands to turn the six-time NCAA Championship winners' fortunes around.
