Tennessee legend Peyton Manning celebrates Volunteers' first-ever College World Series live from Charles Schwab Field
The Tennessee Volunteers made history on Monday night as they became College World Series Champions for the first time in the history of the program. Many stars were present at the 2024 College World Series Game 3 at Charles Schwab Field, with one of the most prominent fans being former Vols quarterback Peyton Manning.
The Tennessee Volunteers come back in the 2024 College World Series after losing the first game of the finals. They recovered to win 4-1 from behind in Game 2 and held on for a 6-5 win in the third and final game of the 2024 College World Series.
This was a College World Series to remember and it will be interesting to see if Vols can attempt to win back-to-back College World Series Championships next season.
What did Peyton Manning do at Tennessee?
Peyton Manning's legendary career began at the University of Tennessee, where he was the starting quarterback from 1994 to 97. During that time, he completed 863-for-1381 (62.5%) for 11,201 yards with 89 touchdowns and 33 interceptions. While he never won a Heisman Trophy, he finished in the top eight in voting for his final three seasons with the program.
His senior season was remarkable; he won the SEC Player of the Year Award and used that achievement to become the first pick during the 1998 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
Which Tennessee Volunteers player won the College World Series MVP?
The Tennessee Volunteers won the 2024 College World Series and Dylan Dreiling was awarded the 2024 CWS MVP. This is awarded to the best player throughout the College World Series, not just during the championship round.
In the six games for the College World Series, Dreiling finished 13-for-24 (.542) with three home runs, six runs scored and eight RBIs. One of the best things for the Vols is that he is not eligible for the MLB draft this year, so the sophomore outfielder will be returning to the program as well.
