Texas A&M 2024 MLB Draft Projections: Predicting landing spots for Aggies in the MLB

The 2024 MLB draft is less than two weeks away as the first round is set to kick off on July 14. The draft will consist of 20 rounds, taking place over a three-day period.

Unlike the NBA and NFL draft, players drafted into the MLB have the opportunity to return to college if they do not sign a contract. Teams are also less inclined to draft to fill holes as players will spend time in the minor leagues developing and needs may change before they are ready to debut.

The Texas A&M Aggies fell one win short of taking home their first national title in program history last month. They have three players who are expected to hear their names called in this year's draft. Take a look at where each of those players could land below.

Texas A&M Aggies 2024 MLB Draft Projections

#1, Braden Montgomery, outfielder

Projection: Round 1, No. 6, Kansas City Royals

Braden Montogmery had an incredible 2024 season, hitting .322 with 27 home runs, 85 RBIs, 65 runs, 76 hits and a 1.187 OPS. The Kansas City Royals have turned things around in 2024, however, they've gotten next to nothing in terms of outfield production. Montgomery will likely be the top outfielder available when they are on the board and could fit the young club perfectly.

#2, Ryan Prager, starting pitcher

Projection: Round 2, No. 53, New York Yankees

Ryan Prager had an elite season in 2024, as he went 9-1 with a 2.95 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 97.2 innings. He would likely be selected higher in the 2024 MLB draft if not for a Tommy John surgery that cost him the entire 2023 season. The New York Yankees have historically shown that they like left-handed pitchers and could look to add Prager.

#3, Chris Cortez, relief pitcher

Projection: Round 3, No. 82, New York Mets

Chris Cortez went 10-3 with a 2.78 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 64.2 innings. The New York Mets have gotten little production from their bullpen and relievers generally tend to have a quicker path through the minor leagues. Cortez is a high-velocity, high-strikeout pitcher who could have an impact sooner rather than later.
