Texas A&M players drafted on Day 1 of the 2024 MLB Draft ft. Braden Montgomery
The 2024 MLB Draft is in full swing as Day 1 has concluded, with the Texas A&M in action. While there are still two more days and 18 more rounds to take place, the top players have began to come off the board.
The Texas A&M Aggies finished the 2024 season with a 53-15 record but were eliminated from the postseason in the College World Series Final. The Aggies had multiple players who came off the board early.

Round 1 picks
#1: Braden Montgomery
Braden Montgomery was the first member of the Texas A&M Aggies to hear his name called as he was selected 12th overall by the Boston Red Sox. The team announced the draft selection, tweeting:
"With the 12th pick in the 2024 #MLBDraft, we have selected OF Braden Montgomery from @AggieBaseball ."
The outfielder hit .322 with 27 home runs, 85 RBIs, 65 runs, 76 hits and a 1.187 OPS last season. In three years at the collegiate level - two of which were with the Stanford Cardinal - he hit .317 with 62 home runs, 203 RBIs, 185 runs, 230 hits and a 1.073 OPS.
Montgomery took to Twitter after the selection:
"Hey 12th Man, how we feeling about that #Branding at pick #12?? Because I’m feeling GOOD!"

#2 Chris Cortez
Chris Cortez was the next Texas A&M Aggies player to hear his name called. He was selected 45th overall by the Los Angeles Angels. The organization announced the selection, tweeting:
"With the 45th pick in the 2024 #MLBDraft, we have selected P Chris Cortez from Texas A&M. Welcome to the Angels, Chris!"
The right-handed pitcher went 10-3 with a 2.78 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 64.2 innings. In a three-year collegiate career, the reliever went 19-7 with a 4.67 ERA and 173 strikeouts in 150.1 innings pitched.
Greg Huss predicted that he will be the first player to reach the MLB, tweeting:
"The Angels drafting Chris Cortez in the second round is so incredibly on brand. Predicting he’ll be the first player from this draft class to make his MLB debut"
