Texas A&M rightfielder has a unique reaction to Wyatt Henseler's recommitment to Aggies baseball
Texas A&M Baseball got a major boost to their hitting line-up earlier this week as Wyatt Henseler re-committed to the program. His move to College Station was received well by his new teammates, and one of them took to social media to celebrate his arrival with a cheeky message.
That player was none other than Hayden Schott, a key figure in the Aggies roster during the 2024 season. Henseler's move comes just a year after Jackson Appel transferred from the Quakers to the Aggies, which saw Schott admit he needed to befriend another friend from the Ivy League outfit.
"Great. I now have to pretend to be friends with another kid from Penn," tweeted Schott.
After spending just one season with the Aggies following his transfer from Columbia, Schott was among a list of Aggies players who entered the transfer portal soon after Jim Schlossnagle left the program to take up the head coach job at the Texas Longhorns. His departure also saw Henseler re-enter the transfer portal after committing to the Aggies.
However, the promotion of Michael Earley from hitting coach to the Aggies' new head coach uplifted their spirits, triggering Schott and other players' exit from the portal to commit to the Aggies for the 2025 season. The promotion also saw Henseler re-commit to Texas A&M.
The outfielder played a key role in the Aggies' run to the College World Series finals, which they ultimately lost to the Tennessee Volunteers. He recorded 8 home runs and 63 RBI with an average of .335, taking part in all 68 games they played, which finished with a 53-15 record.
Wyatt Henseler set to add more firepower to Texas A&M Baseball
Henseler impressed for the Quakers this season, becoming just the second student-athlete in Quakers history to earn two ABCA All-American honors. He recorded 22 home runs and 56 RBI with an average of .360, all of which are team-leading totals.
Appel's success for the Aggies this season shows Henseler has nothing to worry about when it comes to making a mark in College Station after transferring from the Quakers. The senior catcher recorded 10 home runs and 41 RBI with an average of .331, which was only behind Schott's average of .335.
The addition of Henseler to the roster and the return of their biggest stars from the 2024 season makes the Aggies look strong ahead of next year. They will be keen to make another deep postseason run, hopeful to clinch the College World Series title for the first time in program history.
